Urdu Lyrics Song Explanation

The song as explained from lyricist’s perspective. This cinematic, powerful anthem like thought-provoking, inspirational song with cutting sarcasm on cruelty still prevailing in human-beings, has allusion to bloodshed that happened during Pahalgam Attack followed by Operation Sindoor by our Armies, and, the bloodshed constantly happening everywhere else in the world, sometimes in the name of terrorism, sometimes for the sake of borders and so on and so forth. It deals with and strongly condemns with cutting sarcasm, the violence of various forms constantly happening around the world for various reasons. This song is a scream of a sensitive human-being who is against all forms of violence and hypocrisy, tender at heart, innocent, scrupulous and who believes in very high standards of human civilization. He dares, questions and challenges the so-called keepers of the world and even God for what is happening that is unacceptable in the framework of current so-called advanced human civilization supposed to be governed by fairness of laws and equality. It is asking for social, ethical and spiritual transformation of the mankind. Intense, philosophically and thoughtfully crafted lyrics are dealt with by equally powerful music and singing to deliver the intense effect such a subject need. Cherish it while you fully understand and appreciate every couplet explained in detail here, along with meanings of difficult words. 1. दिलो में नफ़रत, ज़ुबाँ पे शो'ले, घरों में सामाँ-ए-क़त्ल क्यूँ है, है तपती रूहों में अश्क धारे, यहाँ पे इतने 'अज़ाब क्यूँ है, dilo.n me.n nafrat, zubaa.n pe sho'le, gharo.n me.n saamaa.n-e-qatl kyuu.n hai, hai taptii ruuho.n me.n ashk dhaare, yahaa.n pe itne 'azaab kyuu.n hai, ज़ुबाँ - tongue सामाँ-ए-क़त्ल - weapons of killing धारे - streams 'अज़ाब - pain, divine punishment He laments, people’s hearts are filled with hatred towards each other, their dialogues are conflagrative and their homes are laden with lethal weapons. Everyone’s souls are in rage but still their eyes are all replete with tears. He asks why everywhere such pain that looks like divine punishment is prevalent? 2. दिलो में लालच, ज़ुबाँ पे नाले, घरों में तेरे रिश्वत की रस्में, दु'आ में शर्तें, शर्तों में तक़ाज़े, ये मज़हबों का व्योपार क्यूँ है, dilo.n me.n laalach, zubaa.n pe naale, gharo.n me.n tere rishvat kii rasme.n, du'aa me.n sharte.n, sharto.n me.n taqaaze, ye mazhabo.n kaa vyopaar kyuu.n hai, नाले - lamentations दु'आ -prayers तक़ाज़े – demands Here is a cutting sarcasm on hypocrisy prevailing in people even when they are performing religious rites or offering prayers to the Almighty, the God. People complaint about their pain to God but their hearts are filled with greed and corruption has become institutionalised. The prayers they offer to God are also conditional and full of demands as if religions have become a sort of business and not any more a pursuit of spiritual accomplishments. 3. क्यूँ है, क्यूँ है, सभी के दामन पे दाग़ क्यूँ है, क्यूँ है, क्यूँ है, सभी की रूहें क्यूँ दबी हुई है, kyuu.n hai, kyuu.n hai, sabhii ke daaman pe daaG kyuu.n hai, kyuu.n hai, kyuu.n hai, sabhii kii ruuhe.n kyuu.n dabii hu.ii hai, दाग़ – blemish Here is the powerful hook phrase meaning “why it is so, why”. It exposes that every one’s hem, every one’s conscience is stained and every one’s soul, every one’s conscience and inner self, is suppressed with sins of cruelty, violence and unscrupulous behaviour. 4. मंज़र है जंग-ए-बारूद-ओ-तुफ़ंग, इंसाँ का ख़ूँ इतना सस्ता क्यूँ है, गर हालत तेरे जहाँ की ये है तो दिल तेरा इतना सख़्त क्यूँ है, manzar hai jang-e-baaruud-o-tufa.ng, insaa.n kaa KHuu.n itnaa sastaa kyuu.n hai, gar haalat tere jahaa.n kii ye hai to dil teraa itnaa saKHt kyuu.n hai, मंज़र - spectacle जंग-ए-बारूद-ओ-तुफ़ंग - war of explosives and firearms तुफ़ंग - firearms इंसाँ - mankind ख़ूँ – blood With great pain, he exclaims why everywhere we see this spectacle of lethal war of explosives and firearms and why the blood of human being is so cheap and worthless as treated by such bloodshed. He questions God if His world is in such a terrible state then why He is just watching it with such a callous heart. 5. मुल्कों की सरहदें, सरहदों की जंग, ये वहशत-ए-जुनूँ क्यूँ है, तेरी ये दुनिया बिखर ना जाए, तुझे ये क़ुबूल है तो ये क्यूँ है, mulko.n kii sarhade.n, sarhado.n kii jang, ye vahshat-e-junuu.n kyuu.n hai, terii ye duniyaa bikhar naa ja.e, tujhe ye qubuul hai to ye kyuu.n hai, वहशत-ए-जुनूँ - barbarity of spirits He expresses the reality prevailing all around, of war over borders of nations and resulting barbarity of spirits exhibited while attempting to achieve such imperialist goals by some nations. He asks God, lest your world be ruined, if such a thing is acceptable to you then why it is acceptable to you after all. 6. कहीं है मंदिर, कहीं है मस्जिद, कहीं है का'बा-ओ-कलीसा बहुत, पर कहाँ है तेरा ठिकाना, कहीं पे तेरा नाम-ओ-निशाँ क्यूँ नहीं है, kahii.n hai mandir, kahii.n hai masjid, kahii.n hai kaa'ba-o-kaliisaa bahut, par kahaa.n hai teraa Thikaanaa, kahii.n pe teraa naam-o-nishaa.n kyuu.n nahii.n hai, का'बा - sacred building of mosque in Mecca कलीसा - church Here is the climax of sarcasm. It says there are endless temples, mosques, synagogues, churches and other places of worship everywhere but God, You are not found anywhere, why signs of You being real are not seen anywhere? 7. कभी तू का'बे से निकलकर, कभी तो बंदों की फ़िक्र तू कर ले, ख़ुदा तू ये कैसा ख़ुदा है, कुछ नहीं तो दा'वा ख़िल्क़त का क्यूँ है, kabhii tuu kaa'be se nikalkar, kabhii to bando.n kii fikr tuu kar le, KHudaa tuu ye kaisaa KHudaa hai, kuchh nahii.n to daa'vaa KHilqat kaa kyuu.n hai, बंदों –disciples, worshippers ख़िल्क़त – creation Here is the question on God’s authority, daring and challenging Him to once come out of his place of worship and visit the real world to exhibit his worry about His own worshippers or else forsake his authority and claim of having created this world, if he can’t do anything about such a dire state of affairs prevailing everywhere in His own world. The song suddenly comes to a deafening silence in the wake of such a pointed question asked to God Himself and leaves the listener in a though-provoking mode for the need of purging everyone’s inner self and social transformation towards creation of better human civilization.
