Urdu Lyrics Song Explanation

The song as explained from lyricist’s perspective. This song is a sad romantic Ghazal with a fresh, modern and new perspective soundscape for today’s generation, and it is sung by the young talented singer beautifully, in his very own heart-touching composition. Simple lyrics with thought-provoking depth is the main strength of the song. Thematically, it wonders why things that are supposed to give us peace and happiness like love and affection, often does exactly opposite of that to us? Sufism infused climactic couplet dissolves the audience in the beauty of its’ deep meaning and leaves them speechless and stunned with the deep meaning of God and his methods. 1. तड़पन मिली है क्यूँ ये, हमें उन के प्यार से, क्या हो शिकायतें कोई, ख़ंजर-गुज़ार से, ta.Dpan milii hai kyuu.n ye, hame.n un ke pyaar se, kyaa ho shikaayate.n ko.ii, KHanjar-guzaar se, तड़पन – pain of anxiety, agitation ख़ंजर-गुज़ार - one who is expert in brandishing dagger or pointed knife The poet, wonders and deals with a paradox as to why he got grief and agitation from the very relationship of love that was supposed to make him happy? He only answers the question by telling that it would be worthless to complain about it to the very person he loved who was unfortunately used to always hurt him with sharp as dagger, acrimonious discourse. 2. वैसे तो कम ना थीं कभी, ख़ुशियाँ ज़माने में, पर क्या करें कि हम ही थें, अंजुम-शिकार से, vaise to kam naa thii.n kabhii, KHushiyaa.n zamaane me.n, par kyaa kare.n ki ham hii the.n, anjum-shikaar se, अंजुम-शिकार - prey of destiny He admits that as such there was no dearth of happinesses in the world but he wasn’t that lucky after all to get them as he more often used to be the prey of the destiny. 3. काफ़िर ना कर गिला तू कभी वो ख़ुदा से ये, ज़ाहिद भी ग़म-ज़दा है, वो परवरदिगार से, kaafir naa kar gilaa tuu kabhii vo KHudaa se ye, zaahid bhii Gam-zadaa hai, vo parvardigaar se, गिला - complaint काफ़िर - non-believer in God, atheist ज़ाहिद - Sufi saint, hermit, believer and follower of religion and God ग़म-ज़दा - afflicted, agrieved by life परवरदिगार – God This is the strongest couplet of the entire Ghazal and deserves to be climactic lines. It says, Kaafir (pen-name of the author, atheist, non-believer), don’t you complain about God that he didn’t offer you happinesses adequately and showered you with pain and sorrows, because when he didn’t even spare his believers, worshippers, followers from pangs of love and life, how was he going to spare you who was a non-believer, non-worshipper. With this beautiful and though-provoking Sufi lines, the song fades away with hook lines leaving charm and meaning humming with melody in audience’s mind.
