'उम्र-ए-दराज़ बीती, बड़े ख़ुश्क-ज़ार में, थी दिल-फ़िगार ज़ीस्त, किसी इंतिज़ार से, 'umr-e-daraaz biitii, ba.De KHushk-zaar me.n, thii dil-figaar ziist, kisii intizaar se, उम्र-ए-दराज़ - long life ख़ुश्क-ज़ार - barren and desolate land दिल-फ़िगार - heartbroken, dejected, sad ज़ीस्त - life The guy painfully describes having spent his entire desolate life in sadness arising out of his unrequited love tale as he kept waiting for his sweetheart to turn to him sometime. 5. हम क्या सुनाएँ नाले, किसी गोश-दार से, काफ़िर को ना सुना, ख़ुदा ने ए'तिबार से, ham kyaa sunaa.e.n naale, kisii gosh-daar se, kaafir ko naa sunaa, KHudaa ne e'tibaar se, नाले - complaints, lamentations गोश-दार - protector, guardian and one who listens काफ़िर - one who see God in beloved and beloved in God In this concluding couplet, the pseudonym of poet “काफ़िर” is beautifully intertwined with a despair and a question that how can one make his friends, his beloved listen to his pains when even the Almighty has never paid heed to his pains by reposing any degree of trust in him.
