Urdu Lyrics Song Explanation

The song as explained from lyricist’s perspective. This cinematic, romantic, philosophical sad Ghazal type song deals with longings for the past glory that was marked with great emotional intensity of love and affection as compared to the present times that lacks grandeur and is also emotionally lack lustre, in terms of relationships, love, affection, romance and life. This perspective has been splendidly and intensely captured by the entire crew, making it linger in the listener’s memories, spurring a nostalgic journey. It will calm the listener’s nerves with music of some classic live instruments like Sarod, Violin producing modern day sounds. It leaves the listener humming the song due to elegant stylistic singing by the accomplished singer effectively expressing the emotions behind every lyric. The lyricist has carefully chosen appeasing words and weaved deeply meaningful metaphors to bring out the central idea of the poem in a truly enjoyable way. Cherish it while you fully understand and appreciate the metaphors used in every couplet explained in detail here, along with meanings of difficult words. 1. अब वो बात कहाँ, वो 'इबादत अब तेरी चाहतों में कहाँ, हम क्या करतें उम्मीद कोई, अब अश्क हसरतों में कहाँ, ab vo baat kahaa.n, vo 'ibaadat ab terii chaahato.n me.n kahaa.n, ham kyaa karte.n ummiid ko.ii, ab ashk hasrato.n me.n kahaa.n, 'इबादत – prayer हसरतों – unfulfilled desires The guy, with heavy heart, laments, the worship-like devotion that was there in his beloved’s love is not found anymore. How can he keep alive any hopes or desires anymore when even his unfulfilled desires fail to bring tears to his eyes as he has become so indifferent to sorrows of separation and longings. 2. बस हैं शब-भर के मेहमाँ, फिर रहेंगे तेरे आसमाँ में कहाँ, बरसा दे बादल प्यार का कि ठंडक ऐसी बारिशों में कहाँ, bas hai shab-bhar ke mehmaa.n, phir rahenge tere aasmaa.n me.n kahaa.n, barsaa de baadal pyaar kaa ki ThanDak aisii baarisho.n me.n kahaa.n, शब-भर – only for the night मेहमाँ - guest आसमाँ – sky The guy romantically urges her, the happiness of their romantic union is short-lived like a night’s guest, metaphorically the moon that disappears in the morning, and post that, he may not be there anymore on her horizon, metaphorically representing her life. So, while the glory of our love is still fresh, shower me like clouds, with your love and affection, to soothe and cool my soul, even surpassing the effects of cooling rains. 3. शायद पता नहीं इन गुलों को, शायद नादाँ हैं सारे, जो तड़पन मेरे दिल में है, भँवरों की धड़कनों में कहाँ, shaayad pataa nahi.n in gulo.n ko, shaayad naadaa.n hai.n saare, jo ta.Dpan mere dil me.n hai, bha.nvaro.n kii dha.Dkano.n me.n kahaa.n, गुलों - roses नादाँ - naive तड़पन – agitation भँवरों – black bees Here the rose is metaphor for his beloved and black bee is a metaphor for himself as it is believed that black bees have attraction towards the beauty of roses and they keep flying and buzzing around them. So, he says, perhaps roses don’t know the intensity of his love for them because perhaps they are so naïve. He further adds, the anguish and longings of love that is there in his heart is not matched even by heart beats of black bees who are superficially flirtatious towards beauty lacking the intensity and truthfulness of his love for her. 4. अब वो बात कहाँ, अब कोई आग शमा' की लौ में कहाँ, अब ना आतिश-ए-आरज़ू कोई, है चैन करवटों में कहाँ, ab vo baat kahaa.n, ab ko.ii aag shama' kii lau me.n kahaa.n, ab naa aatish-e-aarzuu ko.ii, hai chain karvaTo.n me.n kahaa.n, शमा' - candle लौ - flame आतिश-ए-आरज़ू - acute desires or fire of acute desires, wishes Here are some more beautiful metaphors weaving the deep emotions even further. Candle stands for his beloved and the flame of candle stands for the intensity of fire of love in her. He laments, the intensity of the desire of love represented by the intensity of the flame of a candle that is more or less burnt out, has diminished to almost nothing as compared to the past when she was so bright and burning with desires of love. He is also facing the same emotional turmoil and diminishing of burning of desires of love himself. He further confesses, he is not even peaceful while sleeping and by rolling in the bed, he is still not finding any solace and happiness. The guy repeats the hook with immense pain and longings for her earlier divine kindness radiant in the past glory of their relationship.
