Urdu Lyrics Song Explanation

The song as explained from lyricist’s perspective. This is a highly sentimental farewell song for a much-pampered daughter, during the last farewell ceremony of her wedding as sung by her father. Every word of the song is a deeply sentimental cry of a father feeling the oncoming void in his life missing his daughter who has been so much fond to him. It is froth with overflowing love and tears of emotions for a daughter who stayed for many years with the family and now she is leaving the family to start her life with her husband, leaving behind a void in every heart of the family. The main USPs of the song are it’s heart-touching lyrics, sentimental melody and beautiful accompaniment of live Indian instruments like Shehnai especially all played by their respective maestros. A great soundscape has been thus rendered, to create the scene of farewell of a daughter so effectively as to make every listener’s heart cry and hum along with a deeply immersive experience of missing someone as fond as a daughter. Following is the detailed explanation of every line from lyricist’s perspective. 1. देखो मेरे जज़्बों का सहारा गया, देखो दिल की नदियों का किनारा गया, dekho mere jazbo.n kaa sahaaraa gayaa, dekho dil kii nadiyo.n kaa kinaaraa gayaa, जज़्बों – emotions The father says, look at what is happening, watch my daughter, my emotional support, leaving me and doing away with the bank of my heart’s rivers of emotions and causing them to overflow as tears from my sore eyes. 2. देखो मेरी नमियों का तरारा गया, देखो मेरी हँसियों का ग़ुबारा गया, dekho merii namiyo.n kaa taraaraa gayaa, dekho merii ha.nsiyo.n kaa Gubaaraa gayaa, नमियों – wetness of eyes तरारा - continuous water falling हँसियों – laughters ग़ुबारा – balloon The father further laments, watch rivulets of my tears flowing down from my wet eyes as my daughter who used to be the reason of my ballooning laughters all along, is leaving me behind. 3. देखो मिलने सागर को ये नदिया चली, देखो दर्द-ओ-ग़म का जो था चारा गया, dekho milne saagar ko ye nadiyaa chalii, dekho dard-o-Gam kaa jo thaa chaaraa gayaa, दर्द-ओ-ग़म – pains and sorrows चारा - cure The father expresses further, look my daughter is leaving me to be with her loving husband like a river flowing towards ocean to lose its’ existence in the vastness of the ocean. Look how my daughter, the cure of all my pains and sorrows is leaving. 4. देखो वो साजन संग चली ससुराल, देखो मेरे नभ का वो सितारा गया, बिटिया की बिदाई हुई, dekho vo saajan sang chalii sasuraal, dekho mere nabh kaa vo sitaaraa gayaa, biTiyaa kii bidaa.ii hu.ii, साजन – husband, beloved ससुराल – in-law’s home नभ - sky Look she is leaving with her beloved, look my daughter, the star of my sky, is gone. Farewell of my beloved daughter is happening in front of my sore, wet eyes. 5. देखो दिल से धड़कन का ये होना जुदा, देखो मेरी साँसों का गुज़ारा गया, dekho dil se dha.Dkan kaa ye honaa judaa, dekho merii saa.nso.n kaa guzaaraa gayaa, गुज़ारा – subsistence The father, with overflowing sentiments, tells, look what happens when heartbeats separate from heart because it is happening with me right now as my daughter, my heartbeat, is as if leaving my heart. 6. मेरे सारे वो सुनहरी सपने गए, रतियों का मेरी वो मह-पारा गया, mere saare vo sunahrii sapne ga.e, ratiyo.n kaa merii vo mah-paaraa gayaa, सुनहरी – golden रतियों – nights मह-पारा – my daughter who is beautiful like moon He further cries, watch my daughter, the only reason behind all my golden dreams, is gone, my moon-like beautiful daughter, moon of my night sky who used to illuminate our home, is gone. 7. दिल ख़ाली और आँखें ये भरी है मेरी, घर वीराँ कर के मेरा गुलिस्ताँ गया, dil KHaalii aur aa.nkhe.n ye bharii hai merii, ghar viiraa.n kar ke meraa gulistaa.n gayaa, वीराँ – desert गुलिस्ताँ - garden Here is a beautiful, metaphorical expression by the father. My heart is empty, but my eyes are full of tears because my daughter, my entire garden of happinesses, is gone deserting my home with her void. 8. उस को करने का लाड़ बहाना गया, देखो सज धज के प्यारा चेहरा गया, us ko karne kaa laa.D bahaanaa gayaa, dekho saj dhaj ke pyaaraa chehraa gayaa, लाड़ – act of pampering सज धज के – embellished, adorned The excuse for pampering her is gone as my daughter’s embellished, adorned beautiful face is gone. 9. आया है अवसर ख़ुशियों की ये बिदा का , लो सूरज डूबा, जो यहाँ चाँद उगा, aayaa hai avasar KHushiyo.n kii ye bidaa kaa, lo suuraj Duubaa, jo yahaa.n chaa.nd ugaa, अवसर – occasion बिदा – farewell The father, with heavy heart, accepts the fact of her farewell finally, and says, now is the occasion of my daughter’s farewell and it sounds to me like it’s the occasion of farewell of all my happinesses. In the second line, there is a beautiful imagery captured with beautiful metaphors. Usually, farewell of daughter takes place when sun sets, metaphorically the sun of his home, his daughter leaves, and moon, metaphorically his beautifully adorned moon-like daughter, rises in the sky of her beloved. 10. मालिक क्यूँ ऐसा रिश्ता बनाया तू ने, कल था जो मेरा आज पराया हुआ, maalik kyuu.n aisaa rishtaa banaayaa tuu ne, kal thaa jo meraa aaj paraayaa hu.aa, Now the song enters the final phase of melodrama and climax of emotions of a father’s heart experiencing emptiness and questioning even the Almighty, God about such injustice to his heart. The father questions the God, why he chose to create such a relationship that used to be very much of his own till yesterday but that has become someone else’s today in a single moment? The song fades away leaving extreme sentiments in listener’s mind and making the listener humming its’ beautiful melody and lyrics.
